Digital transformation refers to the changes associated with the application of digital technology in all aspects of human society.[1] Digital transformation may be thought as the third stage of embracing digital technologies: digital competence → digital literacy → digital transformation. The latter stage means that digital usages inherently enable new types of innovation and creativity in a particular domain, rather than simply enhance and support the traditional methods.[2]
In a narrower sense, "digital transformation" may refer to the concept of "going paperless".
Digital transformation affects both individual businesses[3] and whole segments of the society, such as government,[4] mass communications,[5] art,[6] medicine.[7] or science [8]
In November 2011, a three-year study conducted by the MIT Center for Digital Business and Capgemini Consulting concluded that only one-third of companies globally have an effective digital transformation program in place.[9]

According to new market research report, published by MarketsandMarkets, the global digital transformation market is expected to grow from $150.70 Billion to $369.22 Billion, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 19.6%. In the current scenario, North America is expected to be the largest market on the basis of spending and adoption of digital transformation market. The major vendors in the digital transformation market are Apple, IBM Corporation, Oracle Corporation, EMC Corporation, SAP AG, Adobe Systems, CA Technologies, Hewlett Packard (HP), Google, Microsoft Corporation, and many others.[10]See also[edit]
